I just tried the Chrome Extension again. Honestly, it's pointless for me. I'm on OSX and currently have 7 desktops open. The Hangouts window doesn't know what desktop it wants to be a part of. When I go to Desktop 1 to use the visible Hangout window, it jumps me to desktop 6 where Chrome is set to full screen but there's no Hangout window there.
Is there an application client of Hangouts for Mac OS X 10.6.8? Skype is no longer available for this Mac operating system Snow Leopard anymore, until March 2017. Chatty for Hangouts is beautiful, native desktop Mac client for Google. Notifications for Chat messages / Video Call via OS X Notification Center. I have tried every Mac app there is, and so far this one is the best regarding stability and UI.
I typically have two full screen Chrome windows open for my personal and work accounts. I need this specifically for Google+ and Hangouts because I'm not going to associate my personal email with my business conversations. If Google allowed us to have a screen name rather than an email address, this would resolve a ton of issues I have on a daily basis. This is no longer a feature request.
Not having a standalone application is a major bug with Google Hangouts. Shelton.L 27/8/2013, 20:43 น. Found this via Google searching for 'standalone google chat application'. Nice to see there's others who want something similar. It's not that I even want a standalone app as such, but just something that is constantly running in the background and doesn't have a Chrome browser window as a prerequisite. I'd be pretty happy just having my Gmail contacts in a popup window, with the same kind of drag and drop features you might find on Dropbox, coupled with some simple calling functionality like Skype.
What I DON'T want, is to have to rely on Chrome or an in-browser option like Hangouts. I know it's hard to believe, but some people don't have their web browser open 24/7!
Anna Dirodi, 4:30 น. Tbh hangouts killed it for me personally. I cant send files anymore by dragging and dropping (which is essential for my workflow) i dont want to have to open a damn email and then attach it etc. The hangouts being docked, with the slow minimise effect, just simply pisses me off, gets in the way always, YES to all those replies say just undock it move it where you want it yada yada. I dont want to do it everytime i launch the app. There is no where i can change the contact list. Scrolling through 1000+ contacts, each with a picture and unique status, that no one cares about.
You get the point. Wheres my display as list option? Lol there is so many things.how about you just bring back gtalk as is and make it look like hangouts (nice cosmetic facelift) thanks! GB IRL 9/2/2014, 8:21 น. I agree with everything pieter (how about you just bring back gtalk as is and make it look like hangouts (nice cosmetic facelift) thanks!) and a majority of people here stated.
Why is google so intent on not listening to its customers? This is why facebook is killing google plus and why people continue to use skype and other messaging alternatives. I used to use google talk heavily because of the drag and drop feature.cant do that on hangouts.
Also why no robust choices for themes and icons like yahoo messenger which i might add also lets you view youtube videos in the messenger along with who you are chatting with. I really want to stick to google products because I like having all my stuff in one place/service. But when you dont fully bake concepts like hangouts or take away widely used ones like google reader for desktop it just continues to make me start considering alternative all in one services like microsoft. The really big problem is that most of these people do not regularly use google, let alone have chrome up and running, or even the knowledge of how to fully use them, which is were a stand alone app comes into play. You can install, configure, and in this case sign in to the app, and allow it to run in the background so that as someone contacts them they can see it and respond.
This is key over the chrome app because that requires the END USER to do something extra. I know Google is a tech company and does not have too much dealings with the other part of society that does not know WTF to do, but that is why standalone applications are so important. After all, why do you have to open your browser to make a document, send a text, get a notification, make a phone call, share files, or the countless other things Google does already do and will add into the future? What do you mean that Google needs to update the app from hangouts? There is no app to update, it is completly new, but yet replacing things that had apps.
And since the apps that they are replacing are over 3 years old if not older, and no longer have support by google, means that they NEED to work on the app, not more updates for the google feature because THAT IS ALL THEY HAVE BEEN DOING AND PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE PROBLEM!!!! It does not make sence, logically, to remove all desktop support for years just to bring a couple new apps, that replaced desktop support. Hell if you completly remove your desktop apps and the support for them for YEARS, can you really say it is better when those desktop users cannot use the google features as the should be able to for YEARS on end??? No you cannot and that is what google has been moving away from and that is what this thread is here for is to tell them that they need to go back to making standalone apps for all there features, and not just get rid of them all.
See, the problem isnt them not having a desktop app, it is replacing all there existing desktop apps, and then asking us to suck it up even though their desktop apps have not been updated in ages and it seams like, at least from the average user, that Google doesnt give a shit about you if you are using a desktop. We want them to give a shit, because there is so much of us!!! Rorre Resu 30/4/2014, 6:57 น. And they need to update their controlls on their mobile sites too, like their product forums. I cannot plus anything off my phone. Which is kinda retarded, but super easy to overlook.
All i am saying is that i would want the same features on all of my computers, not just half on my laptop and the other half on my phone (though it is more like 25% on laptop and 75% on phone) is it really too much to ask for to make sure everything works the same across all platforms? You wanna use hangout? Oh u can go online or use the app. You wanna use GV? You wanna plus something or post it on google+? Then every google page needs to load, and be updated the same.
It just gets really really annoying and frustrating when a company who is supposed to be cross platform software company is not a cross platform software company, but just a partial, and Google os making it worse by removing support instead of adding to it and trying to make it better for everyone equally. It just does not make sence to give me a google+ or a hangouts app on my phone, were webpages dont load correctly to contain the plus button, but not on my desktop. To me, this seams alot more than just kinda retarded (ไม่รู้จัก) 22/5/2014, 7:52 น. Raheel arif 28/5/2014, 23:41 น.
